B is for Birthday

Johnny is another year older today! Here is a shot of a couple of his birthday presents. He also got some great books and lots of tools. We hope your holiday is as good as ours has been so far. Enjoy the weekend and rest up to bring in the new year. Good night everyone.

Merry Christmas Eve Eve

I hope all of your holidays are as awesome as this photograph from meadow's flickr photostream! I can't wait to escape for awhile and be with our family who we love sooooooo much. Also, we're looking forward to meeting up with some old friends to ring in the new year!! Peace in 2009 friends.

mmmmmm

Love Coralie Bickford-Smiths book cover design. This image was taken from her design-related profile, and the color combinations are breathtaking. I am a sucker for a beautiful book.

I had something to tell you

I must be drawn to tints and shades of red and green lately. Wonder Why? "I had something to tell you" is a photograph from Bright Tal's flickr stream. I can't wait for holiday break!!!

A little drop

This necklace is so simple and classic. I rarely wear jewelry, but I would love something like this in my stocking for Christmas. Check out the rest of Lauren Haupt's locallibrary etsy shop.

Burrrrrrr

It's so unbelievably cold outside that it hurts. Although, the tones, color, and composition of this photo from Sarita Loilita's Flickr stream is enough to warm me up for the night. It's beautiful.

Blueberries and Pomegranates

I had grand ideas of being super productive today, but instead I spent most of the day in my pajamas. I did however make a very delicious blueberry crumble, which I ate with some frozen yogurt and loved every minute of. Speaking of love, I really enjoy the wallpaper that I posted above. This is 'Pomegranate' wallpaper designed by William Morris, produced by Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co in 1866. I found this image on dis-order-ed's flickr site and I think the color combination is delightful.

"this way"

This is a new series of miniature paintings that I have been working on titled "this way". Although the process has been a little tedious, it can also been somewhat meditative too. If your looking for a little direction in your life or know someone that could use some, this could be the perfect piece of art for you. The first couple paintings of this series will be up in our etsy shop in the next couple days. "This way" to our etsy shop!

Lovely

These are terrariums created by Christina of TheOakLeaves etsy shop. They are amazing little treasures that I would love to have in my home. Plus, Minnesota cold and winter is soon upon us and a little green can never hurt. I think I may try to make my own. If anyone has any suggestions on how to create and nurture a terrarium, shoot me an e-mail or write a comment. Good night and I hope that you have someone or something to make you smile this week.

And they're off.......

Another couple small herd paintings being shipped out east to a loyal customer tomorrow. This series of paintings has been so fun. I am definitely not finished with the herds, and there will be more to come soon. Enjoy your week everyone!

Beautiful Rugs!!

I would love to have one of these rugs designed by Magdalena Lubinska and Michal Kopaniszyn. The designers are inspired by folk motifs, yet the rugs definitely have a modern feel to them and the colors are amazing! Very nice.

Mornings

I've been tired this week. I'm not one of those people that needs coffee in the morning to function, but it has definitely helped the last couple mornings. Plus, I really like this coffee mug that my friend Angie made. It has this great slip action on the top that looks like a decorated cookie on the lip and the form is paddled into a square shape. Also, I really enjoy the glaze combination of pale blue with earthy contrasts. There is definitely something to be said about beautiful functional art. P.S. Can I please become more of a morning person.

Winners and Losers

This is a taste of Johnny's new Winners and Losers print series. Most of the time we're losers and cool with that. Nonetheless, the wheels are definitely turning for new additions to this series and there should be some pretty exciting prints to come. If you read or have read this blog, be a winner and let us know what you think about the new work. Happy Thursday!!

Oh how I'll miss thee.....

I really love how this painting turned out and I'm sad to ship it off tomorrow! It just seems to have this playfulness about it that I'm really attached to. Anyway, I'm hoping that Jeff in New Jersey loves it as well and will find just the right place for it. Farewell to "Herd #1".

We've Been Blogged!

One of our favorite design blogs gave us a shout out and featured Johnny's "Beef Its What's Ballooning" print. Thanks Erin at www.designformankind.com. Also, it's a four day weekend for us, I sold a couple paintings on Etsy this morning, and we get to travel back to good old South Dakota for a few days to see our family that we miss dearly. Whaahoooo!

ART CRAWL!

The Saint Paul Art Crawl is this weekend and we took a couple shots of our place. We have both been working on some new things and we'll post some pics of the new art soon. Johnny has a few new prints in a awesome series that he just started called "Winners and Losers", and I have been working on a series of small paintings of animal herds. Also, the above picture is a shot of our new business card that we just screen printing on oak and fir wood pieces. Our website is on the back! We're pretty excited about getting some new things in the works....so stay tuned if you're interested.

Simple and Smart

Although this message was originally fly posted around London during WW2, it is definitely applicable 60+ years later to everyday life. I've wanted this print for quite some time now and I see it on about every design blog in pretty much any color you can imagine. I would prefer one in a nice calming color like pale blue instead of the intense red above. Anyway, keep calm and carry on my friends. Also, we are making art for the St. Paul art crawl that is coming up and we will post some of it soon!!

Lucky!

Must be a lucky week! Johnny won tickets on the current to Sigur Ros that plays this Thursday night and I won tickets last night to Mates of State that plays on Monday! Kind of weird that we were both the tenth callers. It almost seems unfair to all the other people wanting the FREE tickets, but what can you do when you're this lucky? I think we're going to go buy some scratch tickets or something. Alright, gloating time over. Maybe we'll brag about how awesome the concerts were later.

Farmers Market!!

I've lived here for over a year and I'm still amazed that all I have to do is walk across the street to get fresh vegetables, fruit, flowers, bread and so much more. The market was REALLY great today. I picked up some fresh green beans, broccoli, sweet corn, carrots, spinach, and lettuce. I also purchased some really great tart apples and the beautiful flowers in the picture above. Not only can you get lots of inexpensive goodies to satisfy your appetite, but it's also extremely visually pleasing. Love it!

New Ride

It's a beautiful Shogun rode bike that was found on Craig's list by Johnny and spruced up with all the bells and whistles by our awesome neighbor Mikey. Its way faster than my mountain bike and much more agile. I love it!

Trick or Treat Countdown

Some may say its animal abuse, but we can't resist an adorable Halloween costume for our cute little Ruby. Last year she was a hot dog and this year we found an awesome little chicken outfit. Fall is pretty much here and we're looking forward to one of our favorite holidays--Halloween. It's starting to get colder out too and we hope that the frost and snow hold off for awhile so we can enjoy some crisp fall days. We are NOT ready for winter yet....still dreaming of summer.

Another Year

Just started up with teaching again and I have to admit that coming off summer break was a bit of a transition. I still want to sleep in and go out to lunch if I want to!! But, I can't complain because being an elementary art teacher is a pretty sweet job. The picture above is a little fun I had with the black board in my room for the start of the school year.

Bright lights and Bacon on a Stick

Our friends Sam and Kevin took us to the MN State Fair last night. We alternated fried foods from savory to sweet and caped off the night with a death wish from one of the neon-lighted, airbrushed, smoke filled carnie rides. It was a good time and I'm not sure I can wait another whole year to have a night filled with foot-long hot dogs, cheese curds, bacon on a stick, honey ice cream, scotch eggs, mini donuts, and fried fruit on a stick. We did however have our fill of kids on a leash, mullets in tank tops, and oversized stuffed animals. Until next year bacon lovers.

Swimming

Ruby is quite the swimmer. She was so good that she continued to move her arms and legs when Johnny lifted her out of the water. Could she be any cuter? I don't think so.

Mr. and Mrs.......

Here are a few photos from our wedding taken by an excellent photographer--katefunk. You can check out her website at www.katefunk.com. The wedding day was absolutely beautiful. The weather was perfect that day and the full moon reflected down on the river to top off a sweet summer night. We were both a little apprehesive to have a wedding with lots of people; but looking back, I think we would both say that it definitely wouldn't have been the same without all of our friends and family there. We had a blast and we're now getting back into the grove of things, but still enjoying our honeymoon stage. If you want to see our other photos, check out our flickr site.

Love,
The Slocums
